What is mHBOT?

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) involves breathing highly concentrated oxygen at slightly increased atmospheric pressures. The increased pressure conditions force additional oxygen into the blood stream, thus elevating oxygen levels throughout the body. This promotes cellular energy production, accelerates recovery, and potentially aids in a variety of health conditions.

What can I expect as a mHBOT patient?

If you are not a current patient at our office, prior to your first mHBOT session, you will be put through a brief exam with our doctor to ensure you’re fit for using the chamber. Once cleared, you will be able to start scheduling sessions.

For best results, we recommend scheduling at least two sessions a week– in general, the more frequent the sessions, the greater the therapeutic effect. During a typical session, you will spend an hour at pressure. However, if you ever need to exit the chamber early for any reason, there is a call button available to notify an attendant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! You’re welcome to bring any non-hazardous items into the chamber, such as a cellphone, tablet, book, etc.

Examples of non-permitted items include food, lighters, e-cigarettes/vapes, and sharp objects.

Just like when riding an airplane, the increased pressure present in the chamber may cause your ears to feel blocked. Helpful methods to clear your ears include yawning and swallowing.

If you continue to have issues clearing your ears, or experience any severe pain or discomfort, please notify an attendant.

While mHBOT is generally a very safe therapy, there are a few patients for whom it may not be appropriate. For this reason, new hyperbaric patients will undergo a brief exam with our doctor before their first session to ensure that they are suited for this therapy.

Examples of potentially limiting health conditions include collapsed lung,  COPD, congenital spherocytosis, pneumothorax, severe emphysema, use of certain medications, and others.

For best results, our doctor recommends having a 1-hour chamber session at least twice a week. More frequent sessions tend to yield better results.

If you feel any severe discomfort or pain, or need to leave the chamber at any point during your session, there will be a remote available in the chamber which allows you to notify an attendant. Once notified, the attendant will release the pressure and you will be able to exit the chamber.
